Breda, April 21, 2024 – Sicily Captures the Heart of the Netherlands
An exclusive event took place at Il Limone, a gem of Breda’s culinary scene managed by the Cappellano family, originally from Syracuse. This gastronomic event served as an important opportunity for Sicilian excellence to meet Dutch agri-food professionals, aiming to strengthen the presence of Sicilian products in the Dutch market.
In recent years, Italian cuisine—particularly Sicilian—has earned a place of honor in the Dutch culinary landscape. The Netherlands, with its long-standing appreciation for fine dining and its expanding market, has shown a growing interest in high-quality food products. Local restaurateurs and consumers are increasingly drawn to fresh, authentic, and certified ingredients that tell a story of tradition and excellence.
Sicilian cuisine, with its diverse flavors and strong connection to its territory, has found fertile ground in the Netherlands. The use of organic ingredients and certified DOP and IGP products, such as extra virgin olive oil and Sicilian wines, has become a symbol of quality and sustainability. This aligns with the preferences of a public that values genuine products deeply rooted in tradition.
This event offered a unique moment to strengthen the bond between Sicilian flavors and Dutch culinary culture, with the aim of fostering new synergies and collaboration opportunities between the two regions.
Sicily on the Table
Il Limone hosted a selection of traditional Sicilian products, including some of the most renowned: DOP and IGP wines, organic extra virgin olive oil, and specialty fruits and vegetables. Each dish was carefully chosen to represent Sicily’s authenticity and quality. The Cappellano family, with their Syracusan heritage, created a warm and genuine atmosphere that enhanced each product, making guests feel part of a centuries-old culinary tradition.
The tastings allowed participants to explore the richness of Sicilian flavors, accompanied by insights that highlighted their organoleptic characteristics and deep ties to their land of origin. Each product tells a story that goes far beyond the simple preparation of a dish: it is a narrative of passion, tradition, and respect for the environment.
A Bridge Between Cultures
The event further solidified the Cappellano family’s role as ambassadors of Sicilian cuisine in the Netherlands. Thanks to their dedication and passion for their homeland, Il Limone has become a reference point for those eager to experience Sicilian gastronomy firsthand. The evening created a space for cultural exchange and connection, opening the door to new collaborations and business opportunities for Sicilian products in the Netherlands.
An International Promotion Project
The event is part of a broader international promotion program spearheaded by ATS Made in Sicily under Measure 3.2 of the RDP, funded by the Regional Department of Agriculture and Mediterranean Fisheries. This initiative aims to bring the best of Sicily to the world, showcasing its gastronomic excellence and reinforcing its cultural identity in an increasingly attentive and interested international market.
